Jared's project benefited the Hudson Valley Humane Society in Pomona. He built and installed three doggy decks to provide rescue dogs with a comfortable, dry place to rest. He led a team of 35 volunteers who worked on the project and raised $2,629 in donations.

“Your hard work and dedication has made your community a better place,” Day told Jared.

Day also congratulated Jared’s parents, Dr. Jordan Simon and Julie Simon.

“Too often we blame parents when something goes wrong,” said Day. “It’s a pleasure to give parents credit when their child grows into a wonderful person.”

Jared is a senior at Suffern High School. He is the 143rd member of Troop 21 in Suffern to become an Eagle Scout since the troop was chartered in 1924.
