"The Martian," "Bridge of Spies" Highlight Stratford Library's Movie Series

STRATFORD, Conn. -- Due to popular demand, the Stratford Library’s monthly “Monday Matinees” film series will continue through June 2016. The series offers free showings of recent, popular films on monthly Monday afternoons at noon. 

Movies are shown uncut on widescreen in the Stratford Library Lovell Room. The schedule is as follows: 

  • "Black Mass," March 14 at noon: The true story of Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf. Johnny Depp stars in the role of Bulger. Rated R, 122 minutes 
  • "The Intern," April 11 at noon: 70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) has discovered that retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site. Anne Hathaway co-stars in this breezy comedy. Rated PG:13, 122 minutes 
  • "The Martian," May 9 at noon: During a manned mission to Mars an astronaut (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Blockbuster, Oscar nominated hit. Rated PG:13, 144 minutes 
  • "Bridge Of Spies," June 13 at noon: During the Cold War, an American lawyer (Tom Hanks) is recruited to defend an arrested Soviet spy (Mark Rylance) and then help the CIA facilitate an exchange of the spy for the Soviet captured American U2 spy plane pilot, Francis Gary Powers. Steven Spielberg directed this critically acclaimed and Oscar nominated film. Rated PG:13, 141 minutes
