Women's Business Council Prepares To Serve Up Annual Breakfast In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Women’s Business Development Council will hold its 14th Annual Business Breakfast on Friday, Oct. 23, at the Stamford Hilton.

The WBDC Breakfast is a major business summit in Connecticut. The event brings together over 750 entrepreneurs, industry and community leaders, legislators, and other supporters.

National and local industry leaders will present a panel discussion, "Supplier Diversity Drives Your Bottom Line." The panelists are: 

  • Amanda Brown, President Barack Obama’s appointee to the National Women’s Business Council and its executive director; 
  • Beverlee F. Dacey, president and owner of Amodex Products; 
  • Angela Guzman, senior manager for supplier diversity for Comcast NBC Universal; and 
  • Laura Taylor, director of procurement for Pitney Bowes. 
Susan Wilson Solovic, a recognized national expert on small business who appears on ABC News and Fox, will be the moderator.

“We want to help corporations based in Connecticut understand how they can strengthen and focus their businesses for optimum growth," WBDC President and CEO Fran Pastore said. "We want women entrepreneurs and business owners to learn how they can get certified to compete for both corporate and government contracts.” 

In addition, there will be two breakout groups, and the WBDC will present awards.

The event honoree will be Jill R. Hummel, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut.

In addition, WBDC will present an award to state Rep. Patricia Billie Miller (D-Stamford), Deputy Speaker of the House, for her unwavering support of women entrepreneurs and business owners in Connecticut.

The Deb Ziegler Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence will go to a WBDC client, Paola C. Hernandez, owner of TropiGlace, an ice cream shop renowned for its use of fresh South American fruits.
