The Stamford Police Department announced that due to the ongoing demolition of the tower, Washington Boulevard is closed north and south between Main Street and Tresser Boulevard. There will be a detour on Washington Boulevard at Broad Street for southbound traffic until further notice.

Police said that officers will be stationed in the area to help alleviate and limit any traffic concerns. Demolition is expected to continue nightly until the project - which was initially supposed to be completed toward the end of January - reaches its conclusion.

In a statement, Stamford Mayor David Martin said, "Stamford's chief responsibility is to the safety of our residents. We're not satisfied with the condition of the building, so we have made the decision to close Washington Boulevard and have the demolition contractor address these concerns immediately.”
