In the Senior Division, Allyson Rioux Memorial Foundation upended Contractors Supply, 23-16, to capture the League Championship. Kaleha Morgan dominated for Rioux with 15 points while Andrea O’Conner chipped in with six. Alissa Lauture posted eight points for Contractors.
Stamford Peace captured the Junior League Championship with a 21-9 win over Good Dreams Daycare. Julia Conforti scored 13 points, including 11 in the second half, to help Peace close out an undefeated season. Peyton Hackett added four points for the champions. Jessica Nelson tallied three points for Good Dreams.
In the Seniors Skills Competition, Morgan captured the 3-point contest championship while teammate Jenna Farro of Allyson Rioux took home the free throw contest title. Heather Fraioli of the Youngtimers 8th Grade Travel Team ran her way to the speed dribbling championship. In the Junior Skills, Nelson collected the speed dribbling championship while Charlie Karukas of Ivey, Barnum & O’Mara collected the free throw shooting championship.
The Starters Division was showcased at the annual "Futures Game" which features the league's fourth graders moving up and playing on 10-foot baskets. A total of 28 girls participated in an contest, which gave all the parents and fans an inside look at the talent rising into the Junior Division next year.
In one of the most special moments of "Super Sunday," the Youngtimers organization awards the Allyson Rioux Sportsmanship Award to a special young lady from both the Senior and Junior Division. The Rioux family comes to “Super Sunday” each year to present the award, which is named in honor of Allyson Rioux, one of Stamford’s greatest high school athletes who died at a young age from cancer.
This year, Meaghan Lavelle of Tibbetts, Keating & Butler earned the award in the Senior Division while First American Title’s Theresa Lupinacci collected the honor in the Junior Division. Both girls exemplified the spirit of Allyson Rioux with their teamwork, sportsmanship and character throughout the Youngtimers season.
