STAMFORD, Conn. — The Terry Conners Ice Rink in Stamford played host to hundreds of fans of a unique kind of skating this past weekend as dozens of synchronized skating teams hit the ice, with girls from the host club sweeping top honors in their respective divisions.

The event, the Terry Conners Synchro Open, is co-hosted by the Southern Connecticut Skating Club and the Southern Connecticut Synchronized Skating Parents Organization. Three teams from the host club, Shadows, Shimmers and Sprites, won gold medals in their respective divisions at the competition. Girls from Stamford, Norwalk, Greenwich, New Canaan, Darien, Westport and White Plains, N.Y., compete for the SCSC.

The club's Synchronized Skating Parent Organization said this year's event included nearly 1,000 skaters from 73 teams, from eight states, with some coming from as far as Texas.

Skaters from across Fairfield County — including from the Stamford-based Skyliners and the Shelton-based Starcatchers — also competed. The team levels ranged from Basic Skills levels up to master's for adults.
