Greenwich, Stamford Rowers Finish 6th In London

GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich’s Andrew Johnson and Stamford’s Alex Stein led the United States Mixed 4 rowing team to a sixth-place overall finish at the Paralympic Games in London.

After finishing second in its first race, the U.S. crew finished second in Saturday’s repechage to earn a berth in the six-team final. While the crew did not earn a medal, Stein said she was proud of the team’s effort.

"We knew that everyone was going to be fast off the line, so we just wanted to go out and be in contention, put forth a full effort, hammering it out right from the start,” Stein said on the USRowing website. “We just came up short, but I think we feel good, because we put it all on the line. It didn’t yield what we were hoping for.”

Johnson began rowing with Greenwich Rowing in 2005 and lists Norwalk River Rowing as his current club affiliation. He is a four-year member of the national team.

Stein, who now lives in Vermont, is the team coxswain. She was also the coxswain for the team last year when it finished sixth at the World Championships.
