STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Stamford Board of Education is expected to name Sherri Prendergast as the new principal of K.T. Murphy Elementary School at its monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 24.

Prendergast would replace Paul Krasnavage, who has been serving as interim principal since the end of April.

Krasnavage replaced Frank Rodriguez, who served as K.T. Murphy principal for the past five years and who was recently appointed principal at the New School at 200 Strawberry Hill.

Prendergast is currently assistant principal at Westover Magnet Elementary School, a position she has held since July 2011. Her new appointment would be effective July 1.

“I am very impressed with the vast experience Sherri has in the district, as an administrator, a teacher and a literacy specialist.” Interim School Superintendent James A. Connelly said. “Except for the past five years while she was at Westover, Sherri has built her career at K.T. Murphy. I am confident she is well prepared to take over the leadership of the school.”

Prendergast is a Stamford native who has worked in the Stamford Public Schools for 24 years. She began her career as a kindergarten teacher at K.T. Murphy and has held a number of teaching and support positions throughout her 19 years there, including head of summer school, reading teacher, and elementary literacy coach. Prendergast has also taught as an adjunct professor at Fairfield University.

Prendergast holds a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from the University of Dayton, a master of science in elementary education from the University of Bridgeport, and a sixth year school administration certificate from the University of Connecticut.

Prendergast lives in Stamford and has two boys who attend Stamford Public Schools.
