STAMFORD — Stamford City Rep. Virgil de la Cruz will run as a Democrat for his seat in District 2 on the city Board of Representatives after turning back a primary challenge from Althea Brown, according to the Stamford Advocate.
De la Cruz commanded a 2-to-1 margin over his challenger in Wednesday's primary voting, the Advocate said.
He will face Republican Bill Kemp in the November election for the District 2 seat, the Advocate said.
The district is made up of the Waterside area. Only Democrats in that district were able to vote in Wednesday's primary at the Salvation Army.
A retired engineer, De la Cruz joined the Board of Reps a year ago to fill the seat left empty when former Rep. Ben Velishka resigned, the Advocate said.
