The incident took around 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 9, in the area of 401 Wildwood Road in Stamford.

Officers were dispatched on a report of a two-vehicle collision in which a person was trapped between the two vehicles, said Sgt. Jeffrey Booth of the Stamford Police Department.

Booth said the accident occurred when a 31-year-old Bridgeport resident was loading construction materials into the back of a 2015 GMC Savannah work van which was parked partially on the roadway and partially in a driveway.

While loading the materials, a 2021 Toyota pick-up truck was traveling westbound on Wildwood Road and struck the rear of the van, pinning the victim between the van and pick-up truck.

The pick-up truck operator said that he did not see the van prior to impact.

"The vehicles were stuck together due to the impact, and could not be separated on their own," Booth said.

Prior to emergency personnel arriving, an unknown truck then approached the scene and using heavy-duty straps from the Toyota, was able to pull the Toyota away from the van, freeing the entrapped victim, police said.

The victim was transported to Stamford Hospital by Stamford EMS with critical injuries.

The pick-up truck operator stayed on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

As of this time, the case is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed, Booth said.
