Westport Police say they responded to Webster Bank at 224 Post Road East on the report of a female attempting to cash what staff members recognized as a fraudulent check for $920 on Monday, July 8 around 2:15 p.m.

Upon arrival, police say bank employees explained that they had been recently alerted to fraudulent activity associated with the account by another branch of the bank and had recognized the check as being fake.

This was confirmed when a bank employee told police that one of the digits listed on the account number of the check did not match the number assigned to the actual account.

While attempting to cash the check, police say the suspect presented two forms of identification and positively identified herself as Sadejia Cook, 19, of Bridgeport.

Cook was arrested, processed and charged with first-degree forgery and fifth-degree criminal attempt at larceny. She was released after posting a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Wednesday, July 17.
