The incident took place around 2:20 p.m., Monday, Oct. 7, when Plymouth Police responded to a report of a person bitten by multiple dogs at her Terryville home, in the Plymouth region, said the Plymouth Police.

When police arrived at her Eastview Road home, they found Patty Collins, in the backyard of a neighbor's home with numerous bite wounds, and were able to extract her from the situation, police said.

As the officer worked to free Collins from the attack, the four loose dogs were "actively engaged in a vicious demeanor and confronting the police, the department said.

Officers reportedly had to shoot at the dogs while attempting to remove Collins.

One of the dogs attacked an officer while he was helping load Collins into an ambulance.

Once free, Collins was rushed to Waterbury Hospital and was transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital where she remains in serious condition.

During the attack, three of the dogs were killed at the scene, while another was taken to an area veterinarian, where the dog was euthanized due to its wounds, Newsweek reported

The case remains under investigation.
