Darkly tinted windows landed a local man in jail after police found more than a pound of pot and cocaine during a traffic stop, according to the Stamford Police Department.

Ryan Lee Cruz, 33, of Williams Street, was stopped Tuesday after officers with the Narcotics and Organized Crime squad spotted a Toyota Highlander with heavily tinted windows on Merrell Avenue, said Capt. Richard Conklin.

When officers approached the vehicle they detected a strong odor of marijuana and Cruz told them he had a "little marijuana," and handed over a bag containing 3.1 grams, Conklin said.

But the drug officers knew Cruz from previous investigations and were aware he had recently finished a parole sentence for a 2014 narcotics conviction. They had also heard he was selling pot and cocaine around the area, Conklin added.

Officers continued to question Cruz, and he eventually handed over eight bags of cocaine that contained four grams of the drug, Conklin said.

Following his arrest, officers took Cruz to his Merrell Avenue home where officers found a pound of marijuana in a closet, more than 20 grams of cocaine, two scales, plastic bags for packaging, and four additional bags of marijuana, Conklin said.

He was charged with illegal use of tinted glass, driving without a license, illegal possession of narcotics, the sale of narcotics, the operation of a drug factory, possession of more than a pound of marijuana, and sale of a controlled substance. He is being held in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
