A suspect is on the loose after allegedly stabbing a restaurant worker in Southport, police say.

Fairfield Police responded to 96 Station St. in Southport on the morning of Monday, Feb. 11 on the report of an assault. The victim, who is reportedly an employee of Paci Restaurant, said she was taking the garbage to the dumpster when she was grabbed from behind.

When the victim tried to escape, she was struck multiple times in the face and stabbed in the abdomen with an unknown object, according to police. The suspect fled the scene westbound toward the parking lot.

The victim is in stable condition, and a K9 track from the scene did not yield any results, police reported.

The suspect was described by the victim as a tall, white male wearing a black jacket, a black hat, and a scarf. Detectives are working to gather surveillance footage and interview potential witnesses.

Anybody who has information about the assault is urged to call the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau at (203) 254-4840. Text messages with information can also be sent to the Text-A-Tip line CRIMES (274637).
