STAMFORD, Conn. -- Connecticut State Police seized three pounds of marijuana in a traffic stop Tuesday night on I-95 northbound near Exit 9 in Stamford, police said.

Troopers from Troop G allegedly observed the vehicle commit a motor vehicle violation near the exit at around 9 p.m., according to police

Upon speaking to the driver, Larry J. Thomas, 44, of New Haven, it was determined that he was allegedly driving a rental car without his name on the rental agreement, said police.

An investigation led the trooper to suspect the possibility of narcotics trafficking, according to police.

The trooper called for a narcotics detection K-9 for a search of the vehicle, said police.

An officer and K-9 arrived a short time later, and the K-9 alerted officers to the driver's side wheel well and engine compartment, according to police.

A search allegedly revealed three packages totaling approximately three pounds of suspected marijuana, said police.

Thomas was arrested and charged with several narcotics related charges.

He was held on $50,000 bond and scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court March 2.
