An early morning speeding stop in Fairfield County led to the arrest of a Stamford man who was allegedly driving drunk, police said.
Shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, officers from the Greenwich Police Department stopped 29-year-old, Christopher Piro, when he was caught on radar driving 67 mph in a posted 35 mph zone on East Putnam Avenue between Wendle Road and Laddins Rock Road.
At the time of the stop, police said that while speaking to Piro, it was determined that he was impaired, and he failed standardized field sobriety tests administered by officers.
Piro was arrested and transported to Greenwich Police Headquarters, where he was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and cited for speeding. Following his processing, Piro was released on a $250 bond and issued a ticket to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
