STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Bridgeport man was charged with burglary after he ran into a stranger's Stamford apartment while fleeing officers after assaulting his girlfriend Jan. 1, the Stamford Advocate reported.

The incident began when the man, identified as Thomas Hutchinson, hit his girlfriend in a cab, then continued the assault at her Stamford apartment, according to the Advocate.

The woman texted a friend, who called police, the Advocate said.
