STAMFORD, Conn. -- An intoxicated man grabbed a steak knife and tried to stab a housemate during a party Saturday night in Stamford, police said.

Jose Benitez, 28, of 641 Pacific St., was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, threatening, second-degree criminal attempt at assault and breach of peace. Bond was set at $2,500, and he was scheduled to appear in court Monday.

The incident happened at 8 p.m. during a party in the backyard of 641 Pacific St., police said.

Benitez grabbed a serrated steak knife and tried three times to stab a man on the front porch, police said.

The knife was grabbed by other party-goers, and the shirtless Benitez was found walking down the street by officers and taken into custody, police said.
