STAMFORD, CONN. -- Following several weeks of investigation into a November argument between two men, Stamford police on Wednesday arrested a 27-year-old Stamford man on a charge of striking another man on the head three times with a whiskey bottle, police said.

Police said Jose Torres, of Relay Place, Stamford, is being held on $60,000 bond facing a second-degree assault charge in a Nov. 21 incident that left the victim, a 27-year-old man, with a severe head injury. Torres was taken into custody at work Wednesday, police said.

Police said they have video and statements about the scuffle between the two men in the early morning hours of Nov. 21.

The investigation started with a call to police about a report of a man with head injuries near Myrtle Avenue and Gregory Street. The victim told police that he and another man he knew had been sharing a ride in the car when an argument broke out.

They got out of the car, and the victim said he was hit over the head three times with a Jameson whiskey bottle, police said. The victim was taken to Stamford Hospital, where he spent three days in the intensive care unit and needed several staples and sutures to close the wounds, police said.

The victim told police that he knew the other man from having worked together in the past, police said. Police said they only had a first name of the suspect when the investigation began.
