Pig Roast Raises $12K To Help Injured Stamford Cop

STAMFORD, Conn. — As Stamford Police Officer Troy Strauser continues on the long road of recovery, he and his family will receive help from the Darien Police Association, which raised more than $12,000 during a weekend fundraiser.

“I can’t thank Darien enough,” said Stamford Police Sgt. Joseph Kennedy, president of the Stamford Police Association. The pig roast “was a great event” that was put together on short notice, he said.

Strauser was hurt in May 17 fall during a foot pursuit of a suspect in Norwalk.

“We are proud to be able to help a brother officer in a time of need, and we're so happy that he and his family were able to attend the event,” Darien Police Officer T.J. Whyte said in an email.

According to Whyte’s email, the amount raised was much more than the $3,000 goal Darien Police had originally hoped to raise at the pig roast. Funds were raised through donations, the $40 entrance fee and two raffles.

Sunday’s fundraiser was the first of three for the Strausers. “Help Out A Local Hero” is set for 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Fairway Market in Stamford, and “A Dinner For Troy” is planned for 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, at the Zody’s 19th Hole at E. Gaynor Brennan Golf Course in Stamford.
