STAMFORD, Conn. -- A search was under way in the waters of Long Island Sound near Stamford's Cove Island Park and Darien's Holly Pond on Friday for a missing boy, the Belltown Fire Department said in a Tweet.
The search was described as a rescue dive operation, fire officials said. Marine police from Stamford, Darien and Norwalk were reportedly taking part.
Stamford Fire & Rescue said there was a report of a youth in the water just before 2 p.m. near Cove Island Park. There were divers in the water as of Friday afternoon.
"It's happening as we speak," the official said. He heard the missing child is a 12-year-old boy but could not confirm.
The Darien Police said its Marine Division & SCUBA Team was actively searching for missing swimmer in the Weed Beach area.
