A man arrested nearly a dozen times in the past two months is back in police custody after being arrested for the second time in as many weeks for violating an order of protection in Fairfield County.

Manchester resident Matthew Hanson, 31, spent Memorial Day behind bars after he was arrested over the weekend in Newtown when he was found lurking outside his victim’s residence during an early morning run-in.

Officers from the Newtown Police Department were dispatched at approximately 3 a.m to the area of Toddy Hill Road on Saturday, May 23 near Surrey Trail, where there was a report of an unwanted person.

Police said that officers arrived at the area and found Hanson’s vehicle as he attempted to leave the scene. He was ultimately stopped on Settlers Lane.

The investigation into Hanson found that he had been in the area in violation of a court-issued protective order, and he was arrested.

It was reportedly his eighth arrest for harassment, stalking, burglary, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and violating a protective order since April 1.

Police noted that earlier in the day, Hanson had been arrested by police in Manchester for harassment and misuse of calling 911.

Hanson was taken into custody by the responding officers and charged with violating the conditions of release, violation of a protective order, stalking, and criminal mischief. He is currently being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.
