Jean Fabre-Benoit, of Prospect, was killed around 6:30 a.m. Friday,  Jan. 11,  on I-95 in Milford, said the Connecticut State Police.

Police said Fabre-Benoit was traveling southbound on between Exits 40 and 41 when the 53-foot cargo trailer full of bottled water he was hauling drove off the right side shoulder crashing into the metal beam guard rail, the state police said.

After hitting the rail, the vehicle then traveled back to the left into the center lane before again drifting right, across the right lane and shoulder, then onto the grass and down the embankment striking numerous trees of various sizes.

This resulted in the tractor-trailer jack-knifing and partially overturning. The trailer broke apart resulting in a significant portion of the trailer's load spilling about the scene, police said.

Fabre-Benoit, the only person in the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Two lanes of I-95 were shut down for an extended period of time for the scene investigation and clean up.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed this accident is asked to contact Trooper David Hawley at Troop G in Bridgeport, 203-696-2500. Reference case number 1900016756.
