A 26-year-old motorcyclist killed in a crash with a Jeep at a busy intersection in downtown Stamford has been identified by police.

Rene A. Sandoval-Romero of Stamford was killed around 7 p.m. Sunday during a crash with the 2012 Jeep Wrangler at the intersection of Canal Street and Tresser Boulevard, said Stamford Police Sgt. Andrew Gallagher.

A preliminary investigation into the crash found that an 18-year-old Norwalk teen was driving the Jeep westbound on Tresser Boulevard, intending to turn left onto Canal Street southbound, when he collided with the motorcycle, a 2004 Yamaha YZ600, Gallagher said.

Sandoval-Romero, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained severe injuries in the crash. He was transported to Stamford Hospital where he died of injuries he sustained in the crash, Gallagher said.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the crash is requested to contact C.A.R.S. at 203-977-4712.

The investigation is being conducted by Sergeants Jeffrey Booth and Andrew Gallagher.
