Flooding Leads To Evacuation Of About 50 From Long Island Restaurant

More than 50 people had to be rescued from a Long Island restaurant after it flooded with water from the nor'easter that caused extremely high tides.

A large military-style vehicle was used by the Bay Shore Fire Department to rescue some 50 patrons and employees from a flooded restaurant.

The Bay Shore Fire Department, along with Suffolk County Police rushed to the Lakehouse Restaurant in Bay Shore around 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, as the water began to rise and flood the restaurant, trapping all inside, said the Suffolk County Police.

Luckily for all, the fire department had just received on Wednesday a repurposed military five-ton military vehicle which was used to transport those trapped, the fire department said.

Police said it took about an hour for the fire department to get everyone out of the restaurant.

The fire department said no one was injured.
