An officer from the Stratford Police Department reported that a dog was attacking a child on Everett Street at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, prompting him to use his Taser on the canine to stop the animal.

Stratford Police Capt. Frank Eannotti said that after being tased, the dog released the child, who was able to run away to safety. The dog then turned to attack the officer, who tased it for a second time, this time with no effect.

After the second Taser shot failed, the officer retreated and was forced to fatally shoot the dog to stop its attack.

The child was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the dog’s attack. The dog died from the gunshot wound at the scene. Eannotti said that the investigation is ongoing.
