Luis Alberto Hernandez, of Spruce Street, had been in Norwalk drinking with his 29-year-old cousin and they returned to Stamford, police said.

The 29-year-old left Hernandez in the car sleeping after cracking the windows and went into his residence, police said. He told police that Hernandez was breathing and snoring when he left him in the car.

He had left him in the car because Hernandez was too drunk to carry, the older cousin told police, Sgt. Paul Guzda said.

He returned a few hours later just before 8 a.m. to discover that his cousin hadn't moved from his position in the car, which he thought strange, and that he appeared to be sick, Guzda said.

The cousin quickly drove Hernandez to the hospital, but despite efforts to revive him, Hernandez died shortly after he arrived, Guzda said.

The cousin told police that Hernandez had a pre-existing heart problem and had been told in the past by doctors to cut back on his excessive drinking.

Police are working with the Guatemalan consulate to obtain a definitive identification as there were some discrepancies in Hernandez's middle name and date of birth on different documents, Guzda said. He said they simply could be minor errors or typos.

An autopsy will be performed Tuesday, Guzda said. No foul play is suspected, he said.
