STAMFORD, Conn. -- Peter Melonakos, 84, of Stamford, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at Regency of Stamford.
He was born March 28, 1931, in New York City to the late Constantine and Georgia Aposporos Melonakos.
Melonakos was a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of 1949 and was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army as a corporal from 1953-60.
He was a clerk at the U.S. Postal Service for many years before retiring in 1991.
He is survived by his devoted wife Margaret Luberto Melonakos of Stamford, his sister Helen Comili of Pennsylvania, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Michael and Adeline Macri, nieces, Ann, Gina, Dina, Lori Ann and nephews Jimmy, Dino, Michael, Bobby and John, as well as many cousins.
Besides his parents, Melonakos was predeceased by his brothers Ted and Jack Melonakos.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday for a funeral service to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Ave., Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John's RC Cemetery, Darien.
