Currie, 66, was well known for playing drums with the Tim Currie Motown Band and Tim Currie’s Tumblin’ Dice Band, which is a 60’s tribute band.
He was also known throughout the community for his community involvement and for his passion for music and athletics, his obituary said.
His passing brought out an outpouring of emotional tributes on Facebook to the man loved by many."Such a wonderful man you are, Tim....so kind and generous, and love of people and music lit our world. So, so sorry. Rest in Peace, dear," said Ellen Peck.
"What a great guy! Funny, honest businessman and a heck of a musician. You will be missed dearly Tim Currie. Deepest Condolences to your family, friends and bandmates. RIP," wrote Teri LeDuc on Currie's Facebook page.
Currie and his family lived in Fairfield for over 20 years. During that time, he coached his two sons in both football and baseball through high school.
"Anyone that knew Tim, knew that the most important things in his life were his family, his business, and music in that order," said his obituary said.
Currie was the owner and operator of Currie’s Tires, which was opened in 1929 by his grandfather (Duke Currie) and has been a landmark in Norwalk for over 91 years.
When Currie put together the Motown band, it ended up drawing some of the biggest crowds ever seen at Calf Pasture beach, raising thousands of dollars for a number of different charities, his obit said.
In addition to wife Kim, Currie is survived by their sons, Adam Paul Currie and Timothy Paul Currie Jr, two brothers, John Currie and his wife Rita and Mark Currie, two sisters, Linda Wolf and her husband Larry and Diane Barnes and her husband Tracey, as well as countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends on Thursday, Aug. 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 30, at the church of St. Thomas the Apostle, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk, with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery.
