John 'Sharkey' Laureno Jr., 66, Stamford CPA

STAMFORD, Conn. – John "Sharkey" A.  Laureno Jr., a lifelong Stamford resident, died suddenly on Monday, July 16. He was 66. 

A certified public accountant, Laureno was the owner of John A. Laureno Jr. CPA LLC in Stamford. 

Born Feb. 9, 1946, he was the son of the late John "Sharkey" A. Laureno Sr. and Fay Campana Laureno. He graduated from Stamford Catholic High School in 1964 and from Sacred Heart University in 1968. His father, was a local sports icon and Babe Ruth League coach. The Sharkey Laureno Baseball Tournament is an annual community event held in his father's honor. 

Laureno was a founding member of the band Sharkey and the Unknowns. They performed throughout the metropolitan area. 

He is survived by a son, John T. Laureno, and many close friends. Laureno was predeceased by his former wife, Cathy Shaw; and a sister, Judith Ann Laureno.  

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday at St. Gabriel Parish in Stamford. Lacerenza Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Stamford was in charge of arrangements.
