STAMFORD, Conn. – Elmire "Sam" Hammock, of Stamford, died on Sunday, Sept. 6, after a two-year battle with cancer.
Hammock was born in Staten Island, N.Y., holding degrees from Bryant College, the University of Bridgeport, and Mercy College.
She worked for several law firms as a legal secretary and as the executive assistant to the CEO of several firms, including Playtex Products, retiring in 2010.
Hammock was a member of the Board of the Friends of the Ferguson Library, the Kingswood Association, a choir member and a lector at St. Maurice RC Church, and co-founder of the St. Maurice Prayer Shawl Ministry.
She is survived by her husband J. Ralph Hammock, son Anthony DeSantis; son Edward DeSantis and his wife Christen, their two children, Miles and William, and two stepchildren, Joel and Letisha Hammock.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10 at St. Maurice RC Church, located at 358 Glenbrook Road in Stamford.
The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory will handle arrangements.
