Edward Fitzgerald, 88, Formerly of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Edward Patrick Fitzgerald, a former of Stamford resident, died July 1 at his home in Moss Creek Plantation, S.C., after a lengthy illness. He was 88. 

A World War II veteran, Fitzgerald was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He worked as a mechanical engineer, rising to the position of international chief of operations at Dorr Oliver. 

Fitzgerald and his wife off 55 years, Marie, retired to Vero Beach, Fla., and Spring Hill,  Fla., where they enjoyed golf, tennis and socializing with friends. 

He is survived by four daughters, Barb (Tom) Tomlin, Pat (Jon) Voelker, Kathy (Joe) Lorenti and Karen (Jeff) Miller; two sons, Paul (Dru) Fitzgerald and Rob Fitzgerald; and 10 grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be in South Carolina. Island Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
