STAMFORD, Conn. – Deacon Christopher Ruffin Sr., of Stamford, died Tuesday, Dec. 29. He was 79.
He was born Jan. 16, 1936, the seventh child of the late Joseph Ruffin Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Peal Ruffin of Williamston, N.C. He graduated from E.J. Hayes High School in 1955 and moved to Stamford. There he married Sarah E. Campbell of Spartanburg, S.C. They had five children.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ruffin, of Williamston, N.C.; children Janet Whitaker (Joseph) and Christopher Ruffin Jr. of Laurel, Md.; Nathaniel Ruffin (Shirley) and Toni Denise Ruffin of Stamford; Todd Ruffin (ShaRonda) of Norwalk; brothers Harold (Peggy), John (Annie), Joseph Jr.; sisters Esther Joseph, Ethel Davis (Robert), Vivian Powell (Paul), Marie Grant, Martha Thompson (Willie); sisters-in-law Marjory and Julie; brother-in-law Arzel; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his brothers Willie and Jimmie, sister Jane Smith, sister-in-law Blanche, and brothers-in-law Dan and Nathaniel.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of God in Christ, 164 Richmond Hill Ave., Stamford.
