STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Stamford woman has been sentenced to three years in jail for stealing her grandmother's entire life savings, according to the Stamford Advocate.
Heather Gansel, 38, a chiropractor and fitness club owner, was found guilty of first-degree larceny during a trial in October for stealing more than $400,000 from her grandmother, said the Stamford Advocate.
The money was supposed to be split between Gansel's uncle and her mother following her grandmother's death, but Gansel spent about $20,000 of the money every month until only $96 was left, the Stamford Advocate reported. Her grandmother died two months after learning of the theft, added the Stamford Advocate.
In addition to jail time, Gansel was also sentenced to five years of probation and was ordered to reimburse her uncle $160,000, said the Advocate.
