Stamford Man Gets 5 Years In Prison For Possession Of Shotguns, Drugs

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A 20-year-old Stamford man was sentenced Monday to 66 months in federal prison for possessing two sawed-off shotguns and narcotics, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut Deirdre Daly said.

Richter Rinvil, also known as Ricky, will serve three years of supervised release after his prison term, the statement from Daly said.

According to court documents and statements made in court, the Stamford Police Department conducted a controlled purchase of heroin from Rinvil in January 2013.

He was then was arrested Jan. 30, 2013, and a search of his Custer Street residence on that date revealed two sawed-off shotguns, one of which was loaded, as well as 4.2 grams of heroin packaged for distribution, 293 grams of marijuana, a personal use quantity of cocaine, drug packaging materials and $3,470 in cash, the statement said.

Rinvil has been detained since his arrest. On Jan. 13, he pleaded guilty to one count of possession of unregistered firearms.

He was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall in New Haven.

The case was investigated by the Stamford Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Vanessa Richards.
