Stamford Cooling Centers Open Friday, Saturday

STAMFORD, Conn. — With temperatures rising, Stamford has opened cooling centers throughout the city to help distressed residents.

Residents can go to the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd., from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and any firehouse — except Turn of River Station 2 on Roxbury Road — from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days, a city news release said.

Symptoms of heat stroke include: body temperature equal to or greater than 105, hot and dry skin with red spots, mental confusion, loss of consciousness and convulsions, the release said. If residents feel symptoms they should call 911 or visit an emergency room, the release said.

Residents should also drink fluids without caffeine, alcohol and a lot of sugar, limit time spent outdoors, stay in air-conditioning and wear sun block, the release said.
