A Norwalk man was arrested following a disturbance at Bloomingdale's at the SoNo Collection, causing a panic in the up-scale shopping center.

The incident took place around 6:45 p.m., Monday, Jan. 13, when Norwalk Police received calls for an assault at the store, said Lt. Jared Zwickler, spokesman for the Norwalk Police.

Callers reported a man was inside the store knocking down items and had punched another individual. Other callers said the man was destroying all of the items in the store.

The man, Jason Gilbertie, was confronted by a security guard who Gilbertie punched and threw items at him, Zwickler said.

Another security guard attempted to pepper spray Gilbertie, he said.

Responding officers arrived and took Gilbertie into custody after a brief struggle.

During the initial response, there were reports that there were shots fired, however, no shots were fired during the incident, Zwickler said.

One security guard and one other individual sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Gilbertie was charged with two counts of assault, criminal mischief, interfering with an officer and breach of peace.

He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
