Felix 'Phil' Mazur, Volleyball Official

A memorial Mass will be celebrated for Felix Mazur at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 4 Pulaski St., Stamford. Mazur died Aug. 21 after an extended illness at age 71.

Mazur, known as Phil, was an officer and a gunner during the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a stalwart advocate of veterans' benefits.

A volleyball enthusiast, he was vice chair of the Amateur Athletic Union Volleyball Executive Committee and was a Region 7 (Great Lakes) former commissioner in the USA Volleyball Association. In recognition of his contributions, the AAU honored Mazur with its annual Phil Mazur Award, presented to the highest-caliber volleyball officials.

Mazur is survived by a brother, Richard; sisters Donna and Valerie; and children Paul, Monica and Rebecca. He was predeceased by a brother.
