STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford’s Access 4 All Committee is lauding the efforts of the Ferguson Library to add handicap ramp access to the Starbucks entrance.

The Ferguson Library held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new ramp this week. The committee’s collaboration with the Ferguson Library and the city is part of its ongoing efforts to make Stamford more accessible and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

“The new terrace at the Library is not an isolated incident,” said Stamford Mayor David Martin. “The Access 4 All Committee is doing tremendous work to make sure Stamford is accessible for all residents. I hope there are more events like this ribbon cutting in the future as the committee continues to make recommendations.”

The A4A Committee, which was created by Martin last year, has been working with vendors, the Downtown Special Services District (DSSD) and the city on sidewalk ordinances to strengthen access in the downtown area.

The committee also recently hired a consultant to do an assessment of city buildings and property and their ADA compliance. The committee will be targeting its future priorities based on the consultant’s final report.
