STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Unitarian Univeralist Congregation of Stamford is sponsoring throughout August a series of writing workshops focused on healing from trauma through self-expression.

The free sessions will be at 9 a.m. Aug. 1, 8, 15 and 22 at The Center, 733 Summer St., Suite 503, Stamford.

Space is limited. To register, contact Rosie Enyart at r.enyart@thecenter-ct.org or 203-487-0658.

Marialena Medrano, a psychologist, poet and nationally certified poetry therapist, will lead survivors of sexual violence in four one-hour writing workshops every Saturday.

In her private practice, Medrano has used creative writing as a means to help people reduce stress, cope with pain and raise their level of emotional well-being, according to a press release. She hopes to help workshop participants confront their trauma and achieve self-understanding through writing.

Medrano will use poetry and literature to assist them in finding ways to voice difficult-to-express emotions, according to a press release. At the end of the series, participants will be enriched by a selection of poems that will serve as a steady and indispensable resource in their journey through healing, according to a press release.
