STAMFORD, Conn. -- Daniel Hammerman, a 22-year-old Stamford native, is now living in Israel and taking part in a nine-month service learning experience that combines volunteer work with learning and immersion.
He is living in Lod, Israel, and participating in Masa Israel’s Yahel Social Change Program. Hammerman is the son of Rabbi Joshua Hammerman, spiritual leader of Temple Beth El in Stamford.
As part of his experience in Israel, Hammerman participated in Masa’s Leadership Summit in Israel, a seminar designed in partnership with the Jewish Agency's Global Leadership Institute for a diverse group of high-potential Masa Israel participants to develop their leadership capacity.
In Lod, he is working at an Arab elementary school in the mornings, as well as a community garden and a youth center twice a week.
He also is in the process of developing a music program to help kids learn English through song.
An American University graduate, he has a bachelor’s degree in international relations.
