STAMFORD, Conn. -- Platform tennis players of all ages are invited to enter "Battle with a Paddle," a platform tennis tournament benefiting AmeriCares March 19.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Country Club of New Canaan. The entry fee is $200 per doubles team. Participants will be guaranteed three matches. Refreshments will be provided by local businesses. All event proceeds benefit AmeriCares, the Stamford-based emergency response and global health organization.

Founded in New Canaan in 1979 by longtime residents Bob and Leila Macauley, AmeriCares saves lives and builds healthier futures for people in crisis. Throughout the years, the organization has delivered $12 billion in aid to 164 countries, including the United States. The deadline for individual or team registration is Tuesday.
