Jewish Family Services To Honor Stamford Residents

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Westport resident Linda Russ and Stamford resident Sandy Speter will be honored as part of Jewish Family Services' 37th Annual Mitzvah Awards on Sunday, May 15.

The event and the 8th annual Auction will take place at Temple Beth El, 350 Roxbury Road, in Stamford, beginning at 5:30 p.m. 

The evening is set to feature a dinner and both a silent and live auction. Items will include theater tickets, Disney Park tickets, Judaica, jewelry, art, vacations, and New York Yankee tickets.

Jewish Family Services Associate Executive Director Iris Morrison also will receive recognition before leaving the agency this spring to return to Israel. 

Russ, a Westport resident since 1995, has been on the Board of Trustees of Bi-Cultural Day School for eight years, on the Executive Committee for five, and currently serves as vice president. 

She joined the Board of Directors of UJA/Federation Westport Weston Wilton Norwalk six years ago, serving as both co-chair and chair. When the Federation merged and became the Federation of Jewish Philanthropy of Eastern Fairfield County, Russ remained on as co-chair to aid the merger process.

Speter meanwhile became a Stamford resident in 1976 and served for three years as president of the Gladys Zales Group and three years as co-president of the Stamford Chapter. She is currently vice-president of Fundraising for the entire Connecticut Region of Hadassah. 

She also served on the Board of Trustees of Bi-Cultural Day School for 10 years, working on their auction for 18 years, and chairing it for four. 

She served on the Board of Directors of Westchester Hebrew High School for two years. She has worked on the JFS auction for seven years, co-chairing for two and chairing for four. 

Morrison oversaw many of the day-to-day operations of JFS, edited the agency’s newsletter, coordinated the agency’s reaccreditation process three times, supervised Continuing Quality Improvement committees and activities and oversaw the initial implementation of the new client database system.
