Fans Of Star Wars, Legos Feel The Force At Stamford Museum & Nature Center

STAMFORD, Conn. — As the newest installment of "Star Wars" burns up movie box office records, fans young and old can get an up-close look at their favorite characters – in toy form – in Stamford.

The Stamford Museum & Nature Center is currently featuring an exhibit called ''A Billion Bricks 3: Galactic Travels," which celebrates the 15th anniversary of Lego Star Wars.

The display features a universe made completely of Lego bricks, as well as "Star Wars" figures, spaceships, trains, vehicles and landscapes.

Visitors of all ages enjoyed the displays this weekend.

"The kids love Legos, and they're infatuated with 'Star Wars,' and its resurgence," said David Gembowski of Fairfield who visited the museum with his family and friends. "We're happy to bring them here and support the museum. I had Legos when I was a kid, so it brings back memories — and some nightmares, too. The displays are very impressive, and whoever took the time to preserve and set these exhibits up, we definitely appreciate it."

The exhibit includes 500 Lego mini-figurines — one of every "Star Wars" mini-fig ever produced, and authentic Lego "Star Wars" spaceships, vehicles, and original set boxes.

Also, photographs of "Star Wars" mini-figs by Dale May, an award-winning, advertising, entertainment and editorial photographer, are on display in the museum galleries.

A number of special events tied to the "Star Wars" exhibit are planned.

On Saturday, Jan. 9, there will be two sessions of "Space Race," where kids can build and race a Lego brick spaceship or car.

On Sunday, Jan. 10, the museum will hold two sessions of "Rebel Alliance Battle." Participants can build and fly a Lego X-Wing fighter or design a spaceship.

On Saturday, Jan. 23, and Sunday, Jan. 24, it's time for "Lights! Camera! Action!" Sign up to learn and film stop-action animation with Lego creations and mini figures.

The cost for members is $40 for one adult and one child, $25 for each additional adult or child. The cost for nonmembers is $55 for one adult and one child, with $25 for each additional adult or child.

The exhibit is open through Feb. 7 at the Bendel Mansion Galleries at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road.
