STAMFORD, Conn. -- Who wants to work on Labor Day?
Forget grilling. Head to a restaurant where, thanks to good wine and food, you can keep that summer state of mind. Stamford Foodies Dan and Kristien Del Ferraro, the bloggers behind OmNomCT, offer up some of their favorite haunts.
Their recommendations for a "no Labor" Labor Day follow:
Fortina, StamfordThe Space: Fortina is always so jammin’ that the upbeat energy even flows outside. Reservations are a must.The Food: Make sure to order the Luigi Bianco pizza if you’re a fan of burrata and truffles (and who isn’t?) and definitely the meatballs which rank in our top five.
Valencia Luncheria, NorwalkThe Space: Gives you the feeling of being on a real Venezuelan beach with tables set out in the sand.The Food: It’s hard to go wrong here, but our favorites are their arepas . . . slathered in that amazing green sauce. Our faves are the Carlo with fennel, Real Deal with chorizo, and Zach with crispy fried chicken and honey.
Mill Street Bar + Table, GreenwichThe Space: Set off in their quiet garden patio, Mill Street Bar + Table will melt all your cares away.The Food: From amazing cocktails to farm fresh food, we’re huge fans of what Chef Geoff Lazlo is doing here. And, while they aren’t open on Labor Day, their Saturday and Sunday brunch is a weekend must. Be sure to order the heavenly desserts and freshly baked breads from their James Beard nominated pastry chef Caryn Stabinsky.
Miro Kitchen, FairfieldThe Space: Lucky for you, the outdoor patio recently opened and has a nice big awning to keep that sun out of your eyes.The Food: This is one of our favorite new restaurants in the area, and it should be yours, too. Check out the Short Rib Tacos, General Tso’s Cauliflower (trust us on this), Shrimp & Grits, and the Hawaiian Fried Rice . . . to name just a few!
Kawa Ni, WestportThe Space: Beautiful views of the Saugatuck River on their outside patio help you to relax at dinnertime. While they aren’t open on Mondays, you can extend your summer state of mind on another night and continue that "vacation" feeling.The Food: If Craig Ventrice’s cocktails don’t get you to chill out, there’s no hope for you. But, take it a step further with the Japananse pub-inspired food of Chefs Bill and Jeffrey Taibe. Must orders include the Fried Chicken Wings, fresh hamachi of the day, Crab Fried Rice, Cold Sesame Noodles, and the Pork & Garlic Noodles. You really can’t go wrong here!
