Greenwich-Based Gourmet Detox Program Launches

This side of your Super Bowl party may have you feeling a little less than super about that third bowl of chili you took down just after M.I.A.’s finger gesture malfunction.

Fortunately, there’s a new gourmet detox program to help you get back on track. Chef Michael Batt (Food Design Catering) and his wife and business partner, Gallia, have teamed with Dr. Myriah Hinchey to create the 10 day “medical detoxification program, Vital~Lean.” According to the Batts, this is “the first doctor created and supervised metabolic detoxification program in Greenwich that combines freshly prepared meals, snacks, supplements and medical foods together.”

“In a healthy detoxification or cleansing program, you should not be fasting,” say the Batts. “Protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals are crucial on a daily basis. If you are not getting the proper amount of dietary protein into your body, your body will begin to use your own muscle. This will result in muscle loss, which leads to a decrease in metabolism which results in weight gain when you resume your normal diet.”

They go on to explain that, while other juice-based cleanses will result in weight loss, the weight that is lost is the result of lost muscle and water, not lost fat. And in the worst instances, a person on a juice cleanse can actually gain fat mass, a side effect of the yo-yoing blood sugar caused by the juice cleanse.

The Batts say their program is designed to nourish the body with protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals that will stabilize the blood sugar and the body’s production of insulin, boosting metabolism in a healthy and sustainable way.

The unique thing about this detox, however, is that was developed in large part by a celebrated chef and renowned caterer. Prior to opening his own catering company, Batt worked in some of New York City’s most praised kitchens, among them Patroon and Lesplinasse. So, while Hinchey has the medical aspects covered, Batt has your taste buds covered.

The 10 day program includes three meals and two snacks per day, plus all supplements, all of which is available for either pick up or delivery to your home, and launches this month. But, say the Batts, space within this detox program will be limited, in part because of the highly personalized nature of the program.
