STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Kesher Chapter of the Pomegranate Guild of Judaic Needlework will showcase the work of its members at the JCC in Stamford from March 6 to April 10.

An opening reception will be held on Sunday, March 6 from 4 to 5 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Founded in January 2014, the Kesher Chapter is one of the newest chapters of the national Pomegranate Guild of Judaic Needlework. Drawing members from Fairfield and Westchester Counties, the chapter currently has more than 65 people on its mailing list and 20 active members.

The name “Kesher” means connections, representing the connections to be made between fellow stitchers as well as the threads used to create Judaic objects. Chapter members meet monthly at the JCC.

“We are so grateful to the JCC for hosting our meetings and wanted to take an opportunity to share our artwork with the community," said Joan Katz, co-president and JCC member.

Nine members of the chapter will be displaying a wide variety of items, all of which have a Judaic theme or are used for a ritual observance. Some of the items include:

  • Tallit Bag made with hand dyed silk velvet and appliqued with thread painting, created and designed by Stamford resident Michele Pulver Feldman
  • Tallit created with huck embroidery, or swedish weaving, created by Cantor Deborah Katchko-Gray, a resident of Ridgefield
  • Pomegranate Sukkah Decoration-- cotton stitch sampler on hessian by Greenwich resident Rebecca Levine

More than 40 items will be on display during the opening reception and a selection of items will remain on display in the JCC lobby from March 6 to April 10. For more information about the Pomegranate Guild of Judaic Needlework visit their website
