Bewitching Comedy Kicks Off New Season In Renovated Stamford Theater

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Noel Coward's "Blithe Spirit" begins a three-week run, in the recently renovated the Dressing Room Theatre in Stamford on Thursday, Oct. 29. 

For the past six months, the city-owned Dressing Room Theatre, originally a barn built in the 1800s, has been closed while a 3,000-square-foot addition was built. Bathrooms have increased in size, an added rehearsal studio, a workshop and new dressing rooms.

Curtain Call is the nonprofit theatre company that has been in residence at The Sterling Farms Theatre Complex on Newfield Avenue, in Stamford for more than 20 years. 

"The City of Stamford has supported and nurtured the performing arts since establishing the barn theatre here back in 1972," executive director Lou Ursone said. "And we are thrilled that that same level of support has continued through numerous mayors and other elected officials."

The story of "Blithe Spirit": Researching for his new novel, Charles Condomine invites the implausible medium Madame Arcati to his house for a séance. While consumed in a trance, Madame Arcati unwittingly summons the ghost of Charles’ dead wife Elvira. Appearing only to Charles, Elvira soon makes a play to reclaim her husband, much to the chagrin of Charles’ new wife Ruth. Now if he wants his latest marriage to stand a ghost of a chance, he'd better conjure up a solution quickly. 

"Blithe Spirit" will play Oct. 29 through Nov. 15, with performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. 

Performances in The Dressing Room Theatre are presented cabaret-style. Regular prices are $32 for adults, $24 for senior citizens and $16 for students and children. Thrifty Thursday pricing – all seats $22.
