Four Stamford Companies Make The Fortune 500 List

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Fairfield-based General Electric was once again the highest-ranked Connecticut company on the Fortune 500 list, according to the magazine's website.

The list is the ranking of publicly traded U.S. companies by revenue. GE, which was ranked No. 6 last year, had revenue of $146.9 billion. 

Other companies in Fairfield County that made the list are Norwalk-based Xerox, EMCOR Group and Priceline.com; Danbury-based Praxair; Stamford-based Charter Communications, Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Pitney Bowes and Frontier Communications; Westport-based Terex; and Greenwich-based W.R. Berkley.

The Connecticut companies on the list, with their rankings, are:

No. 8: Fairfield-based GE  

No. 50: Hartford-based United Technologies 

No. 84: Hartford-based Aetna 

No. 103: Bloomfield-based Cigna

No. 112: Hartford-based Hartford Financial Services Groups

No. 131: Norwalk-based Xerox 

No. 241: Danbury-based Praxair 

No. 245: New Britain-based Stanley Black & Decker 

No. 340: Stamford-based Charter Communications

No. 351: Westport-based Terex 

No. 399: Norwalk-based EMCOR Group

No. 400: Stamford-based Starwood Hotels and Resorts 

No. 438: Greenwich-based W.R. Berkley 

No. 473: Norwalk-based Priceline.com

No. 489: Stamford-based Pitney Bowes 

No. 492: Stamford-based Frontier Communications 

The Top 10 are, starting with No. 1: Wal-Mart Stores, Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Phillips 66, Berkshire Hathaway, Apple (making its debut in the Top 10), General Motors, GE, Valero Energy and Ford Motor.

Facebook makes its first appearance on the list this year, coming in at No. 482.
