A popular eatery in Fairfield County temporarily closed for violating the state’s COVID-19 restrictions.

Officials said that the Brickyard Pub on Post Road in Fairfield was fined and ordered to temporarily close for hosting mass gatherings and violating face-covering mandates recently.

Police responded to the popular restaurant after receiving multiple complaints of COVID-19 violations.

According to reports, there were gatherings of more than 50 people congregating outside the front of the building, failing to wear face coverings, while there were more than 100 people inside.

The owner of the pub, Jennifer Lynn Wilson, of Easton, was fined for not complying with face-covering requirements. She was also fined $500 for violating gather size requirements, according to police.

“The majority of the patrons observed within Brickyard Pub were found to be gathered at the bar and were found not to be wearing face masks,” officials said in a release.

The pub was cited on Friday, Oct. 23, and was ordered to close for at least the weekend, at which point it will be evaluated on Monday, Oct. 26.

“Fairfield business owners are working very hard to stay afloat while complying with the sector rules. It’s very important that everyone does their part to protect the health of our community,” First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick said in a statement. "The irresponsible actions of a few can have an impact on the entire town and other local businesses. We’re all in this together, wear a mask, follow the rules.”
